Students of the Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ) at Delhi University have alleged administrative irregularities, lack of transparency in fees and inaction on their complaints. They held a peaceful protest on October 8, 2026. According to the students, an official asked for four days and assured them of resigning by October 12.
The students say they fear the administration will not keep this promise. If no action is taken by October 12, they are considering another peaceful protest on October 13, 2026. They have also appealed to media houses to send reporters to cover the issue on the ground.
What are the students alleging?
The students say there have been administrative irregularities and alleged misbehaviour with women students at the institute. They also allege caste discrimination and say their complaints are not taken seriously.
On fees, the students say the institute charges around ₹70,000. They claim there is not enough transparency on how this money is used, what facilities it pays for and who is accountable.
Why was the protest held on October 8?
The students say they gathered to press these concerns in a peaceful protest. During the protest, the official concerned reportedly asked for four days. The students claim the official assured them of stepping down by October 12. This is the students’ account. The official’s response has not been made public.
What is the new allegation about the students’ unity?
The students allege that attempts are being made to divide them along OBC and General category lines to weaken the protest. They say there are reports that some OBC students are being influenced to stay away from the protest.
The students have made it clear that the movement is not against any caste, community or class. They say the rights and dignity of SC, ST, OBC and General category students are equally important to them. Their stated aim is a fair, transparent and accountable academic system.
What do the students want now?
The students want an impartial inquiry into all allegations. They also want the administration’s side to be heard. They say they can share information, complaints and available documents if needed.
As of writing, no response from DSJ or Delhi University on these allegations was available.
